We moved into our green-built house a year ago and continue to marvel at its beauty and modern style. Our home was designed and built by Kenji Glenn, The Green Builder NW, Inc. We went with him because he is committed to environmentally sustainable building.
When we purchased our lot on the top of Morgan Hill in Port Townsend, Washington, we wanted to take advantage of the view and the light. Kenji carefully assessed how the house should be sited in order to maximize the benefits of light and warmth from the sun. The result is that the house sits on a diagonal angle relative to the street. We not only get great light throughout the day but loads of passive solar heat due to the siting and the floor to ceiling windows along the southern side of the house. The design process took a few months. Kenji worked with us and listened to our ideas. The result is marvelous and we love living in it.
Kenji managed every element of the house’s construction from it’s foundation, framing and Specially Insulated Panels (SIPs) for the roof to the many details of the interior such as the natural quartz counters, and bamboo flooring. In several instances, curious neighbors and friends would ‘inspect’ the build and tell us how impressed they were with the quality of the construction.
Each section of the house, the two sleeping wings and the main living area are rooms that we enjoy being in. The window design is particularly inspired with views in every direction. And the exterior with its red metal siding works well with the dark stained wood paneling across the front. Perhaps the most dramatic feature of the house is the covered front porch and breezeway which are supported by solid black steel beams. It is great to be able to sit on our front porch no matter the weather.
We are glad that we chose The Green Builder NW. It is a pleasure to live in our home and we notice and appreciate design elements every day.
